Ernst Childers, a Creek Indian from Oklahoma, single-handedly killed two snipers, destroyed two machine gun nests and captured a fire support observer while with the 45th Division in Italy 80 years ago. Childers received the Medal of Honor seven months later.

John Towle jumped into the crossfire at Nijmegen Bridge during Operation: Market Garden, to fire his rocket launcher at German tanks, causing them to withdraw, and a fortified house, killing nine enemy.
